Why it is important
Prosocial use of your money/time results in feelings of happiness. Volunteers are more satisfied with their life than non-volunteers. Helping others will reduce stress and increase longevity. Generosity through volunteering seems to benefit mental health and survival. Giving social support can lower blood pressure. People with empathy and altruistic behaviors have less cardiovascular risk.
Giving promotes a sense of trust and cooperation that strengthens our ties to others.
